Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review

I have been using the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation ($43 USD / $72 SGD) for a while now and I thought it’s finally time to share my thoughts on it. My Ultra HD Foundation shade is Y205 which works very well with my fair skin. Despite it being a “Yellow” shade, I did detect some pink undertones in it. However, I do find this colour more yellow compared to the previous lightest shade in the HD range.

This foundation claims to “feature uniquely-coated pigments that provide medium to buildable coverage with an even lighter weight, second-skin texture that looks just like skin.” In addition, it promises to be invisible to the 4k lens used in television. Well, in this day and age when we are constantly Instagramming and Snapchatting, it’s getting increasingly difficult to look flawless when every pore and every blemish can be seen.

Do I think the foundation is undetectable on the skin? To be honest, nope. In real life, I can still see it but it does not look heavy or cakey. However, I noticed that this looks incredibly natural in photographs which you’ll see below. After application it dries completely matte but doesn’t cling to any dry patches. 🙂 I love the finish of this, it’s so beautiful on the skin! Also, remember to shake this foundation well before using!

The foundation has a pump that is easy to control, allowing you to pump out the exact amount you need for your face. All I need is one full pump to achieve medium coverage.

For me, when I buy a foundation, I look for one that evens my skin tone, covers slight redness and doesn’t emphasize pores. If you’ve relatively good skin, you could use one to two full pumps, to ensure absolute full coverage. But if you love those full coverage foundations (e.g. Kat Von D’s Lock-It Liquid Foundation), you may find that this foundation does not deliver the coverage you desire.

I have tried this with my fingers, the Beauty Blender and a dense foundation brush like the Sigma F80 Kabuki Brush. I found that this works best with a brush. I generally hate applying foundation with my fingers and it doesn’t help that this foundation is quite watery. A sponge, on the other hand, would absorb too much product! That’s because this foundation is a water-based foundation, so I don’t recommend using it with a sponge.

This is one of my favourite foundations but I have one big issue with it. I found that after 5 hours or so, the foundation would start wearing away at my nose. Also, whenever I accidentally touch my face, the foundation would come off. Not a lot, of course. But still, this foundation is not transfer-proof by any means. You will need to use a good primer and set with a translucent powder. Take note that I have dry skin and this foundation doesn’t last that long on me, so the wear time may possibly be even shorter for oilier skin types.

Here is the Ultra HD Foundation swatched next to Nars Sheer Glow and Tarte BB tinted treatment 12-hour primer. The MUFE is certainly the most pink-toned out of the three, although it’s supposed to be a “Yellow” shade. The Tarte BB primer blended nicely into my skin so you can’t really see that well. Oops! Haha. If you’re usually the lightest shade in any foundation (Dior, Lancome, Clinique, Chanel), you may want to consider the second lightest shade in this range. That’s because my shade, Y205, the lightest shade in the yellow range is extremely pale. I’m extremely pale so it suits me fine. If I stood next to a white wall, I may blend right into it. Just kidding… But seriously though, I’m paler than MAC NC15.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation retails for $72 in Singapore which is really pricey and not worth it if you’re using this for everyday. However, if you’re planning on using this only for special occasions or events, it’s certainly worth the splurge! As I paid $43 USD for it, I think that price is reasonable for a high-end foundation. I will repurchase this, but only if I can get it directly from Sephora in the States.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush Review & Swatches

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush Review Pansy Pop

When my friend was in USA a while back, I asked her to help me pick up the the USA exclusive Clinique Cheek Pop Blush ($23 USD) in Pansy Pop. It’s said to be a “long-wearing, buildable cheek color that imparts a bright hue”. Did it live up to its claims? Yes! Pansy Pop lasted 10-11 hours on me (bear in mind I have dry skin) and it’s definitely a vibrant shade!

Makeup removal made simple with Neutrogena Cleansing Oil-to-Foam!

Neutrogena Cleansing Oil-to-Foam

Cleansing oils are a staple for me. They take away makeup quickly, effectively and with minimal tugging on the skin. But I’ve never tried cleansing oils to foam before! When I was offered the opportunity to test out the new Neutrogena cleansing oils, I immediately said yes.

Neutrogena’s new cleansing oil to foam comes in three different types to cater to the different skin needs. Housed in a plastic casing, the packaging is no-frills. Just a basic bottle (but colourful), and a pump that dispenses just right amount of product each time. The cap is secure so you don’t have to worry about leaks and spills when traveling with this. Sephora ION Orchard Opening!

Last Friday (22nd July), I did the craziest thing I’ve ever done in all 21 years of my life. I queued from 7am to 12pm for the grand opening of the new Sephora ION Orchard! But that’s not all. After that I queued another hour to make payment. So in total I spent 6 hours queuing at Sephora!!! Round of applause for me please. I have no idea how I lasted so long. 😛 Grab a cup of coffee, this is going to be a rambly post.
