I have been a fan of the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer so when Tarte released a new concealer with the Rainforest of the Sea collection, I immediately ordered it off the Tarte website without swatching it in person. The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer ($26 USD) is said to be a “lightweight, 12-hour concealing serum with skin-soothing benefits that provides targeted, medium, buildable coverage.” I picked up the shade in “fair” which is the lightest shade in the range.
The first day I tried the concealer, I wore it alone without foundation. It worked well at concealing redness on my face and definitely lived up to it’s medium and buildable claims. However, it didn’t quite conceal my dark circles and that could partly be because the shade is not light enough for me. More on that later.
The Aquacealer has a huge doe foot applicator that allows for easy application.
Here is a comparison between the Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer and Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in fair. The Aquacealer is definitely more runny compared to the Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. The Maracuja Creaseless Concealer is a full coverage concealer that has a thick consistency and feels heavy at times.
As you can see, when freshly applied, both the Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer and Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in fair are quite similar, with the Maracuja leaning slightly more pink.
Unfortunately, after 15 minutes, the Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer oxidised until it was almost a shade darker! 🙁 It went from being the perfect match for me to something I couldn’t wear! 🙁 Arghhhhhhh!! Can you feel my frustration?!?!?
Apart from the oxidation, I must say, I love this concealer! This concealer achieves the barely there look beautifully as it has the right consistency. It’s neither too thick nor too runny yet concentrated enough to be lightweight, while still providing medium coverage. I noticed some reviewers mentioned this concealer smells like paint, and I agree. It doesn’t have a pleasant scent but fortunately, still bearable.
Just a little dab is enough to minimise the appearance of redness and dark circles. It layers beautifully, and melds like second skin. However, if you have extremely severe dark under eye circles, it may not totally cover them up. The Aquacealer settled a little into the fine lines under my eyes, but it wasn’t too noticeable. If you have dry skin, I recommend applying an eye cream under your eyes as this concealer can be a bit drying.
I’m happy to have purchased and tried the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer but if only it didn’t oxidise so badly… Hence I would recommend that you may want to use a slightly lighter shade than you otherwise would. For me, fair is already the lightest shade so I can’t go any lighter than that.
Overall, this concealer is one to consider if you want a medium coverage concealer. However, if you’d like a concealer with higher coverage, opt for the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Shiseido Natural Finish Cream Concealer or the Maracuja Creaseless Concealer instead.
Shall end off this blog post with the beautiful view of pastel skies, cotton candy clouds and cable cars in the distance.

Thanks for stopping by! Glad my review helped.
As a person with very fair complexion I understand your frustration with the oxidation! Sadly, I don’t think it would still match me if it oxidises a shade, but I’ll go swatch it anyway since otherwise it sounds nice!

Hope it works for you! But if you are extremely pale, like Nars Siberia, this won’t work for you.
This product looks very nice! I will definitely try it!!
Thanks for sharing!

I love Tarte products, but never tried their concealers. I might try the Aquacealer as I don’t mind it being a bit runnier than other concealers. Thanks for sharing! xo

It’s runny but definitely not too runny that it drips everywhere! 🙂 Reminds me of the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer!
I haven’t tried this yet! But I’ve read pretty mixed reviews. I am not a huge Tarte fan to begin with, but I might try this collection out!

Gosh, a concealer that oxidizes!! OUT!!! Hahaha…. i’ve heard a lot abt the marajula one, but it’s too thick for me.
I use the Maracuja with the beauty blender. I agree, it’s too thick to be used with fingers or brush.
Oh no, that’s shame with the oxidising! It always puts me off when I hear that highly recommended products get that way 🙁

Yes! It’s was quite disappointing! 🙁
I haven’t tried much from Tarte lately, but their newer products have been calling to me. The concealer sounds pretty great aside from the oxidizing.
Lovely photo! 🙂
Thank you!
I haven’t heard of this brand yet, but I like using concealer too, it’s like a mini magic wand.

Thank you! If you are ever in Singapore I could recommend some places for you to visit! 🙂
I’ve heard so much about this foundation. I really can’t stand it when they oxidize!

Thirteen Thoughts
You know I have had trouble with coloring in most of the Tarte face products. First it’s almost impossible for me to find a good color match and even if I do, it always turns on me. Not sure what the deal is. Sad because they do make good products.
