At the recent Sephora Black Friday sale, I picked up the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light ($72 SGD / $46 USD). These powders were the thing last year. I was hesitant to try it because the $72 on a powder is really insane. I was also trying to finish up the Guerlain’s Météorites Compact before I switched powders.
What it does:
Create the perfect illumination for your face with Hourglass Ambient® Lighting Powder. Infused with the innovative Photoluminescent Technology, each finishing powder captures, diffuses, and softens the look of the skin. The micron-size, color-correcting particles refract light and create transparent coverage, filtering out harsh light and refining the appearance of the skin.
The shade that I got, Ethereal Light is said to be “an opalescent sheer, cool white powder that mimics a moonlit glow, even in broad daylight.”
I don’t know what it is about this powder but it makes my skin look amazing. A M A Z I N G. I brought it with me when I went on a short trip to Bintan for church camp and every single day my skin looked so good. Nothing in my routine changed so it was definitely the powder. I realized that when you on a trip and you’re “forced” to pack the essentials, that’s the best way to know which are your holy grail can’t-live-without products.
When swatched, it looked like a shimmery white powder. But on the skin, it becomes undetectable. It’s very finely milled and makes my skin feel so smooth after application. The smoothness reminds me of the Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder, just that the Make Up For Ever Powder is matte.
The powder does a great job at diffusing the light and helping my skin to look flawless. There’s a noticeable but natural sheen to the skin, but nothing too sparkly that would result in you looking like one of the Cullens. The packaging is a fingerprint magnet but it doesn’t bug me too much. I usually wipe the compact clean after each use. A bit OCD? Maybe.
Here’s a photo taken outdoors. The flawlessness is real. I did not edit this photo apart from adjusting the brightness.
Here’s one taken indoors. I couldn’t find a single individual photo of me during the trip so we’ll have to make do with this selfie with a bunch of people in the background. Haha. So this is how your skin will look like with a spotlight shining on you. 😉
On an unrelated note, the trip to Bintan really taught me to live in the moment and just enjoy myself. Sure, I was posting my adventures on IG Stories but it was just for fun. I didn’t really scroll through my Instagram feed and look at my social media accounts.
The past few days in Bintan has had a huge impact my life. I don’t usually share anything about my religion on the blog but honestly, what I have is not a religion. It’s a relationship with Jesus. 🙂 Here’s a verse that I really wanted to share with y’all.
I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am. — Philippians 4:13-14 (MSG)
My prayer is that in this verse, you will find the hope that is Jesus, no matter whether you are at. Mountains high or valleys low. Sometimes in life, things don’t go our way and it’s like a constant roller coaster ride. I may be a “social media influencer” or “blogger” or whatever you want to call it, but that doesn’t mean my life is a bed of roses. All of us have days when we feel like we are Joseph in the prison. You may not be able to see it right now, but that’s what faith is all about. Beloved, just trust God. Believe that he has you in the palm of his hand and He can turn any situation around.
Ok enough of my random ramblings. Back to the powder. All in all, I highly recommend it and it’s my favourite setting powder. This is coming from someone who has tried both the Meteorites and the NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder. It’s a staggering price tag but this is worth every single cent. I can’t recommend it enough! I shall end of this post with one last photo of the gorgeous packaging and a beautiful photo of the Bintan Lagoon Resort. 🙂 Have a lovely day everyone!
Have you tried the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders? What’s your favourite setting powder?
