I was kindly gifted the Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation ($39.90 SGD) from a friend so I thought I would give it a go. I’m not a cushion fan but I was intrigued when the description on the website said that “it’s so buildable and practical even men feel comfortable using it.” Even men? Woahhhhh, that’s some big claims there hahaha. Any of my guy friends want to try this? 😉
From The Body Shop’s website:
The best of a liquid foundation in a convenient compact, the formula provides protection with SPF 25 PA++ and 24-hour moisture. It is so buildable and practical even men feel comfortable using it.
Cleverly combining a cushion sponge with micro-mesh, this new on-the-go essential gives you just the right amount of foundation for spill-free, hygienic and totally easy application. Simply push the cushion down to release the formula and rock the applicator against your skin to release the desired amount of product.
First off, The Body Shop I love you but what’s up with the lousy packaging?? My cushion casing literally broke the first time I opened it. I checked the label and lo and behold, made in Thailand. This is why I always buy made in USA/UK/Australia/Korea products and avoid made in China/Thailand if possible. I’m not being a snob but I’m just really doubtful on the quality. I’ve had some made in China products fall apart after a few uses.
This cushion comes with a mesh netting instead of the usual cushion sponge, which seems more hygienic.
This mesh netting is not something new as other companies under the Loreal group have come out with cushions with mesh netting as well. Just take for example the Shu Uemura Blanc:Chroma Brightening UV Cushion Foundation. Now, I’m a liquid foundation kinda girl. I don’t use cushions because I can never find a colour that’s light enough for me. My daily go-to foundation would be Nars Sheer Glow in Siberia, which is lighter than MAC NC15. I’m pale, like alabaster pale, like porcelain pale. I went to Google Siberia once and found out that Siberia is a place with lots of mountains and snow. Every inch of that Russian province is covered with thick, dense snow. Quite an apt name, I guess.
First impressions, I swatched it (on my hands and on my face) and unfortunately it’s too dark for me. I wasn’t expecting it to match me perfectly because even Korean cushions don’t match me well. There’s a floral scent to it, so if you’re sensitive to fragrances, do take note. The fragrance irritated me as it was quite strong and I could still smell it on my face after a while.
As you can see from the swatch below, the lightest shade Fuji Peony 01 is still pretty dark. There are five shades in the range so if you can find a colour that suits you, hurrah!
It has a dewy finish which I like because I’ve dry skin. But most Singaporean ladies probably won’t enjoy the glowy look, especially in our humid weather. The other day, the highest temperature recorded was 34.5 °C, which is 94.1 °F. I could feel my makeup melting off my face the moment I stepped out of the house.
Coverage is low to medium at best. It’d suit ladies who are looking to go for a minimal makeup. 🙂 I didn’t test the wear time because, truthfully, once I saw the cushion didn’t match me well, I didn’t bother to apply it on my entire face. But from the looks of it, I doubt this cushion would survive a 12 hour day.
The final verdict: The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation is suitable for those with dry skin types, looking for a glowy finish cushion that offers light coverage. Good for those with clear skin and only need a foundation to enhance their skin, and not so much to cover up problem areas. Do I think it’s comfortable to wear? Yes and no. It’s lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin but the scent irritates me till no end. So there we go! Hope my review was helpful!
